Gatineau 2007 - Monday Morning and
Evening |
The morning flight was winded out again.
Sigh. We took group photos instead. Went back to the hotel and then went to
brunch.
Patriot Crew |
Flighthouse Crew |
Then we went to brunch at the Hilton
Hotel and Casino in Gatineau which includes this Chihuly glass sculpture in
the entrance hall.
|
Monday afternoon we went out to the field
to wait to see if the wind would die down enough to go a glow. We get there
at about 5:00 PM for the weather briefing and the glow wouldn't really start
until 9:00 PM, so there is a lot of time to sit and just hang out and work
on international relations. Our 2 sets of crew in Canada were absolutely
amazing. Everyone came back even though we made them lift heavy
balloons several times over the weekend. Some even brought snacks, others
went and bought me newspapers because I was too lost to drive the truck and
trailer AND find a store that actually had the newspaper that I needed all
at the same time.
As much as we all wish that we can
remember each persons name, we just aren't that good. The Canadian crew that
we had are that good and I just wish I knew more French. I never thought I
would say that!
Even though we didn't get to do do a
glow on Monday night, it was wonderful to get to know some of the crew a
little bit better. I wish that at every event we had more time for that.
Here are a few random crew shots
before it got really dark. |
Banana - When she wasn't
working, she had the phone on.
|
Nicolas - He has the wonderful pic from
Sunday of the sunrise. |
Michelle - Shy to begin with, but she got
into the groove. |
Jools (sp?) - From Uganda and now in
Canada.
|
Mark Shilling - Pandy pilot taking a
group shot for us.
He looks so mild mannered. Don't let
him fool you.. He took the next group shot..
|
|
Richard Rapp & Barry.. Richard will be
flying Patriot at Albuquerque this year.
|
Richard, Teri & Barry declare our short
Canadian tour a smashing success! |
We all hung out until about 8:00 PM, then
we started taking Patriot out of the bag to remove the Canadian flag that
Jean Guy (pronounced 'Gee') gave us to put on Patriot's left wing for the
weekend. .
|
It was still too windy for a glow. But...
then we did the candlestick glow.. |

This event is probably one of the finest
and most organized events we have been to. Right down to the coffee cart
coming to us on the field in the morning to give out coffee and water in the
afternoon. We can't say enough nice things about the organizers and all of
the volunteers that make it run so smoothly.
The crew that we were provided with
was top notch and and incredible to work with. Thanks to all of you. We
can't do this without you!
Merci beaucoup from all of us!
Barry, Harry, Richard, Diane, Teri,
Mark & even Karen who left us for the Birthday Cake!
Nous espérons vous voir l'année
prochaine !
(I really hope that is
correct) |
