The Bronx Celebrates America! July 1st, 2003
We didn't arrive to fireworks but to a beautiful day and the conditions for a tether looked perfect. As the sun started to set, the winds stirred.... |
When we arrived at Orchard Beach, it could not have looked better for a tether of America One. As the sun set, the winds picked up. At about 8:30 though, we got our window of the right wind and we inflated just before sunset.
Since we had some time before we inflated, we put out our giant USA ground cloth.
On to taking out America One! It takes a lot of people to take it out of the bag and to spread it out to inflate. Thanks for the help guys.
We cold inflated so the spectators could see what we were doing.
This is Junior. He is the great guy that moved our propane from New Jersey to NYC then back to New Jersey. Junior was a great help to us even though he didn't have to help other than the propane stuff. In addition to being great crew, he is an asset to his employer who can be confident in the fact that Junior is a person who is the embodiment of every employers dream. To do his job correctly and to do the right thing, even when no one is looking.
Cold inflation in the sunshine.
Barry, Keith, Debbie & Jon. When we were cold inflating, the wind kicked up and we just let America One slowly deflate.
Here is Barry standing by the propane and watching the winds as we all went and got something to eat.
We ended up inflating and standing up for about a half an hour.
Atraties on the left who was loaned to us from the Guardian Angels & Junior during the tether. Thanks guys!
Worth the wait, or at least we think so. Thanks also to Sargeant Pat Carabello & Organizer Joel Nuss for helping us out on our foray into the heart of the Bronx!
