The Newest Flag Car- 1997 Grand Am
Sadly after 10 years, the MR-2 has a new
home. It was time for a change. Since there has been so much interest in how
we turn our cars into flags, you can follow here as we change our 'new' 1997
Pontiac Grand Am into our newest flag vehicle. Come back for updates!
Painting is scheduled for this weekend. |
The new Grand Am as we received it from a
nice guy in New York. He drove all the way to New Jersey to pick up Barry &
Larry after Barry's new 1991 Capri stranded him on the turnpike.
|
Barry is known in certain circles as the
'Baron of Bondo'... Fortunately, this car hasn't needed that much.
|
Primed and just about ready for sanding
and then painting.
|
We already have the USA Flag plate on
this car. Although, Barry did try to get me to give it up and put it on his
Crapi, er ah.. .Capri.
|
Side note: The Capri has now stranded us
3 times.... Is it flag worthy? I'm thinking not! Stay tuned.... not only for
the paint job on the Grand Am, but also IF the Capri gets the flag
treatment.
|
April 13th. |
In the booth, ready to get painted
white. April 22. |
This is something unusual... Barry is
suited up to paint. Here is the unusual part... he has lost most of his
voice... |
He can't talk. |
But, he can still paint. |
|
|
|
|
All white and Barry still can't talk. |
Ok, we are going to go home and stripe in
the morning.
|
April 23 really early in the morning! |
The spoiler is hanging up in the
foreground. Good thing he remembered to paint it. |
Next morning at 6:00 AM, here I am
applying the guidelines for the red and white stripes.
|
It's 6:00 AM, and I'm tired...
|
We have to mask off the white areas and
the blue area, then paint the red stripes. |
We're getting there... |
Now a short break to go to work for 4
hours and we will be back.. |
Here we are back at it... This is Barry's
masking job. |
This is mine... |
Before the red |
|
|
Barry has changed his name to 'Tyvek'.
I've had several people comment on this picture that Barry looks miserable.
It isn't Barry, it is Tyvek, Barry's evil twin.
|
About 11:00 at night. Applying stars. |
Yes, still tired... |
The stars before the blue |
Ready for blue. |
|
|
|
|
|
We were going to clear coat right after
the blue, but decided that we could really use some sleep instead.
Next, we remove all of the masking and
do the clear coat. |
Clear coat applied. It is like glass... I
will put up the finished car when we put it back together.... Stay tuned. |
