Weather over Philadelphia on September 15, 2005.
Including radar & a
photo. Teri & I were leaving the
office tonight and looking off to our left saw the cloud and moon in the
photograph below. After taking a
few pictures, I came home and ran the radar history to find out more about
this independent cell. It grew in the populated area of Delaware County (I
thought for sure it was Philly) and the tops reached 54,000 feet according
to the radar reflectivity, which is shown below. The crosshairs in the
weather map indicate where we were at the time and the red dot is the the
cell. The sun had set 25 minutes before so the sun was currently setting
around Toledo, OH, approximately 500 miles away. So the tops of the clouds
are reflecting the Blue Light at the end of the day with the moon enhancing
it. 10 minutes later, it was all but gone. |
