1997 Firebird Formula - The unexpected
Flag car We weren't looking for
a car. This one found us. The price was right and it was begging to get the
flag treatment! So, of course we obliged.
|

This is the car as we bought it. In
pretty good shape, with just a couple of dents, the wrong color and no
second gear. |

No need to show the transmission so here's a dent.
|

Barry is pretty good at fixing dents. He
is even learning that bondo isn't the greatest tool in the chest! This is a
"spot-puller" which welds a stud to the panel to pull inaccessible dents. |

Dad and Greg learn the finer points of
'scuffing' the WHOLE car! |

Off comes the Firechicken! At this
point, purists might want to leave this webpage. |

Officially now certified "Lighter-Than-Air" with the
single wing insignia. |

Dad decides that he wants to learn how
to 'Pimp a Ride'. |

White goes on first. |

The stars are underneath the blue,
really. |

Red next. |

Stencils on the stars removed and ready
for clear coat. |

This is a basically stock Formula Firebird convertible
350 LT-1 with 285 hp. The only thing changed is the Hooker exhaust from the
catalytic converter to the back. |

The finished Formula! Oh yeah, the
trans is already swapped out with a new one. |

This one is a bit different than our last
incarnations. This one has all pearl paint and we think it is absolutely
gorgeous! Total time on the project? About a week. |
