man is ready for a GREAT time.

Our bed and breakfast for the first 4
days of our trip was in the heart of Rome. An absolutely beautiful place
next to the Spanish Steps. The B&B is owned and operated by Anna Manieri and
she makes sure that her guests are well taken care of. Wonderful breakfasts
and 5 star accommodations. Clients are by recommendation only. |

Staircase from our B&B. We were on the
2nd floor. This photo is looking up through the center of the staircase.
There were 27 steps to get down from the top and I never did count the
stairs going down.

Fruit every morning. |
Fantastic bathrooms. Each bathroom had
a tile fountain, glass sink & an 'Albatross' shower. The shower had so many
options, massaging jets, regular shower AND a sauna. |
2 bedrooms with king sized beds. Very
comfortable beds.
Thanks to Anna for making our stay
such a pleasurable one. |

When we arrived in Rome, it was raining.
That did not stop us from going out and having fun!

The first thing Barry did was run all
the way UP *Spanish Steps (Piazza di Spagna) . All 138 of them. I am still
trying to figure out why. We walked up them later in the trip and just
walking was a major effort!
|
Fontana della Barcaccia (Fountain of the
Old Boat) at the bottom of the Steps. We were told that his fountain was
built after Rome flooded from the Tiber River in the 1700s. A boat landed
here when the waters receded. They built the fountain to remind them of the
flood. |
My first meal in Rome. This pizza was the
only thing that I could really recognize on the menu. While it looked
similar to pizza, it tasted more like Campbell's Tomato Soup on a saltine
with sausage. |
Our first dinner was at a place called, "Caffe
Leonardo". Inside, was a beautiful trompe l'oeil scene of the Spanish Steps
along with a much smaller replica of the 'Fountain of the Old Boat. We ate
here several times as the food was very good and the desserts were even
better. By the end of our stay in Rome, we were practically regulars.
While we were in Rome, we just had to get
our 'Coconut Power'!

First full day in Rome. Anna arranged for
a tour guide to take us around Rome. Loris took us to all of the best spots
starting with- *Catacombs of St.
Domitilla (Catacombe di San Domitilla) |
Top of a very old Corinthian column
outside of the Catacombs. |
Darlene & Barry in front of the
Catacombs. |
We weren't allowed to take
photos of the inside of the catacombs but our guide Laura allowed me to take
a couple of pics on our way out.
Apparently, flash photography is
harmful to frescos and paintings so you are not allowed to film or take
photos in a lot of places.

Next stop- Palatine Hill in the heart of

I dangled the camera over the edge of
the railing and got this shot. This is a little better view of the lower
level of the Colosseum. |

|
The Colossus of Nero was housed under the
dome of the Temple of Venus & Rome. |
Lunch time! |
|
At lunch, Ramsey asked for a fruit cup.
This is what they brought. This happened twice while we were there. We all
got a chuckle of our horrible Italian language skills. |

The Pantheon
Building first started on the Pantheon in
27 BC. The present building was constructed between 118 & 125 AD. Originally
it was built as a temple to all of the Greek Gods but now serves as a
Christian church.

* Often names that we know of in English
are a bit different in Italian. I have put the Italian name in parentheses
so you can see the difference. Sometimes not very different, sometimes very
different. |
