1987 GMC Crew Cab Dually
We got this truck in 1997 as an
aftermarket Custom Truck. It was dark blue with silver stripes all over
it. It has 125,000 miles on the
odometer and was UGLY. We re-painted it in 1998 in a Dark Blue Metallic
and
much easier to look at. In 2002, we
painted it to match the Flag Balloon. In 2003 we added the truck
cap. First, we had to bring the cap
into the composites shop to modify it into an air dam for the
trailer. The top was chopped off and
raised 8.5 inches and the front roof windows were removed. Ther rear
part was made into a "ducktail" to
deflect air up and over the trailer. So the truck wouldn't work as hard
by decreasing the wind resistance from
the tall trailer. The side railings are actually Ford Ranger
bedrail tubes. They would normally be
mounted on top of the bed and used for tying things down. We used
them as handrails to make it easier to
install.
This truck was retired by us with over
200,000 miles on it, after making a trip to Albuquerque, NM in 2003
and El Paso, TX in 2004. It never ever
let us down, but was extremely uncomfortable for long trips. It's new
owner is in New Jersey.
